Summer Frolick

We had met

in the middle of summer

amid a heat that had nothing

to do with the weather

and everything to do with

attraction.

As the summer stretched out

the rain dried out

and the sun shed light.

Everything was so bright,

so vivid, the joy of freedom

momentous.

Circling each other like

nectar draws hummingbirds,

the path almost undetectable,

frolicking carelessly;

We were iridescent*,

absorbing our color from each other.

*Hummingbirds are iridescent, reflecting colors around them like a bubble floating in air.

  1. Oh I love this! Nice beat to it.

"We were iridescent" this is a nice line because it is a pretty word, and it hums energy just like a hummingbird, and describes a nice ethereal feeling.
